The month of October brought with it cooler weather, Thanksgiving celebrations, Halloween tricks and treats, and new franchises opening across Canada. See what franchises may be opening near you in this October roundup edition of the Monthly Franchising News.

Longtime Restaurateur Opens New McDonald’s Franchise in Ontario

Longtime McDonald’s franchisee Peter Miller opened his latest McDonald’s restaurant at 13231 Yonge St. in Oak Ridges. Miller opened his first McDonald’s franchise over 30 years ago, and over the years, he has seen the many changes the fast food burger franchise has gone through in order to keep up with changing consumer tastes. Miller’s latest opening features design work collected from international McDonald’s outlets: chair designs are from Australia, while a row of bar stool privacy tables are from Hong Kong. The new franchise also features self-serve order stations and expanded menus, which will be entering every new McDonald’s restaurant.

Giant Tiger Opens Three New Franchise Locations in Ontario and Sasksatchewan

Giant Tiger has roared into three new locations located in Ontario and Saskatchewan. The new Ontario stores in Hamilton and Windsor are both 2,322 m2, and the new Saskatchewan store in Saskatoon is 2,230 m2. All three stores held their own grand opening celebrations that included an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, free product samples, a charitable barbeque, and an appearance by Giant Tiger mascot Friendly the Giant Tiger. Funds raised from the Hamilton franchise opening went toward the Canadian national Autism Foundation (CNAF), the Windsor fundraised went toward Windsor Lifeline Outreach (WLO, and the Saskatchewan funds raised went toward the Prince Philip School.

Baskin Robbins Continues Franchise Expansion in Ontario

Baskin Robbins has aggressive expansion plans for Ontario. The ice cream franchise has signed 18 store development agreements with new and existing franchisee groups across Ontario. The new franchisees include: Sulman Muhammad, who has plans to develop 11 locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area; Sunita Patel and Jayant Patel, existing franchisees who have teamed up with new franchisees Vivek Patel, Rahulkumar Patel, and Nimal Patel to open three shops in Burlington; Imtisal Kiran, who will open her second location in Toronto; Qais Hakeemi, who will open one shop in Ajax, Lori and Frank Malavolta, who will open their frist location in Hamilton; and Lu Tian and Mike Pomerleau, who recently opened a combined Baskin Robbins and Kernels Popcorn shop in Ottawa. There are currently more than 100 Baskin Robbins locations in Canada.

Wendy’s Heightens Quebec Franchise Expansion

Wendy’s has announced that it is seeking new franchisees in Quebec located in the Montreal and Quebec City areas. The fast food burger franchise is recruiting experienced multi-unit restaurant franchise owners to help grow the brand in the province. Franchise opportunities are available in Laval, Brossard, Sainte-Foy, Lévis, Trois-Rivières, Gatineau, Sherbrooke, Chicoutimi, and Saguenay. There are currently more than 360 Wendy’s locations in Canada, including 12 franchise locations in Quebec.

Valvoline Opens New Location in Ontario

Valvoline Instant Oil Change has opened a new Express Care locations in Kingsville, Ontario. Valvoline Express Care locations provide full-service oil changes and a range of preventative maintenance services. Most locations also offer fuel system services for most vehicles. The new location is the company’s ninth independently contracted center in Ontario. The site is co-owned and operated by Wesley Cronheimer and Greg Price, who also own and operate individual Valvoline locations in the Kingsville area. The newest addition adds to a network of more than 1,550 company-owned, franchised, and independent Valvoline quick-lube stores in North America.
